I am a pretty big fan of Pokemon as you can tell from my retrospective. When Pokemon Go was announced I was skeptical. I was going to check it out but I wasn't expecting much. I played a few mobile games some good some bad, most I just deleted. I like Fallout Shelter, Star Realms and Sky Force. But I couldn't do the energy meter thing, I tried a game called Galaxy Legend, at first it was kinda fun, I liked customizing my ship and fighting other people's ship. But over time It got to the point that to do anything I was waiting a week. It's not that I hate energy meter games as a concept. I actually love Pokemon Picross, but that game gives me a reasonable amount of time to wait, its not steadily increasing energy bar that gets longer with every action. I can comeback to the game tomorrow, play for a while knowing I can play tomorrow again.
What about Pokemon Go? Well I like collecting Pokemon its one of my favorite bits of the franchise. I however, am not going to go halfway across the city to get one Pokemon. I unfortunately can't fly on the back of a Noctowl. I think the battling is also sub par. The doge doesn't work great and level is a chore. So lets talk about what I do like. The Geocaching.
I walk to work. It's 1.7 kilometers one way, in other words not enough to hatch even the smallest egg. I do, however live in the down town of a major city. I like architecture, parks, sculptures and the like. Pokemon Go had Poke stops at many of the interesting locations. Places that I pass by and mostly ignore now are pointed out to me. That house I pass by 10 blocks away, that's an example of Victorian style architecture. The handsome apartment building with the cool old style windows? That was designed by a famous architecture. And that tall building I walk under? There are 3 embassies in there.
I love that Pokemon go provided me insights to my city I never had before. Playing this game in the down town of a large city is easy mode, since I pass by so many pokestops on the way to work. but all the same its pretty great. What have you discovered? A hidden statue? A park you never noticed?
