Phils Game/Pop Music Similarities #298 - Beethoven Was An Alien Rebel
Featuring Contra 3 - The Alien Wars and several.
Greetings fellow game music lovers,
as promised, another Contra entry. This time for one of the more well known entries: Contra 3 - The Alien Wars from 1992. In europe known as Super Probotector. Today it's the ending theme that, like the rest of the soundtrack, is reminiscent of many 80s action movies:
From a stylistic perspective, this song sounds like a stereotypical 80s action movie "the day has been saved" music. Like from the Schwarzenegger "Commando" movie from 1985:
But what about the melody? An interesting finding can be found in the song "Out To Space" from the Wings Of Honneamise anime soundtrack (1987). It happens to be the first movie by Gainax, the studio behind Neon Genesis Evangelion:
Can we dig further? Another similar sequence can be found in the work "Goyescas" by spanish composer Enrique Granados (1911):
Finally something less complete but with the little "dings": The beginning of
Beethoven: "Sonata No.21 in C Major, "Waldstein" "
