Featuring Final Fantasy VI and folk/world/country.
Greetings fellow game music lovers,
Final Fantasy season proceeds at full speed and after Final Fantasy V obviously comes Final Fantasy VI (1994). And what is more representative for an RPG than the world map theme which, in this case, is identical to Terra's theme. We already talked about that one a few years ago.
However, the theme has a second part which appears around 80 seconds into the song and which, thanks to random encounters, you are only likely to hear if you decide to idle on the map for a while:
The progression is pretty reminiscent of the main part of the song "Kleines Senfkorn Hoffnung" ("Litte Mustard Seed of Hope") by Ludger Edelkötter (1975?). It is part of the official catholic church canon in germany and emerged from a movement known as "Neues Geistliches Lied" ( "New Spiritual Song" ) which sought to modernize the church music of the day:
This kind of music used to be inspired by the folk/world/country genre and the christian contemporary music of the day so I wouldn't be surprised if there is more music with the same general progression.
More Final Fantasy next week!
Phil out.
