Among Us is having a massive collaboration and players will get the chance to rock some brand new skins and other cosmetic items because of it. This collaboration includes seven popular indie games, including big names like Undertale and Castle Crashers.

Alongside those two, the other games involved in this crossover are Celeste, A Hat in Time, Crypt of the Necrodancer, Untitled Goose Game, and Alien Hominid Invasion. Innersloth, the developers of Among Us, announced this massive collaboration on November 28 and it is live now, until February 28, 2024.

There are a total of 25 hats, 18 skins, 12 nameplates, 9 visors, and 6 pets included in this crossover. With the in-game currency—beans—players can head over to the shop and purchase a Cosmicube. The Cosmicube allows players to have access to all cosmetics from each game for a mere price of 7,000 beans. Beans are earnable through gameplay, if you're finding yourself bean-less for this new cube.

Alongside this collaboration, Innersloth has also added in a number of different patches in order to improve Among Us. Since its release in 2018 and massive success it gained during the pandemic in 2020-2021, several updates have been released. The patch notes state that they’re falling behind because of all of the older versions of the game, so the team is removing older versions and encouraging players to update to newer versions for efficiency.

This collaboration will be the first update since The Fungle map was added to the game back in September of this year. The Fungle is the fifth map to be added to the game. It features a fungus-infested jungle for crewmates and imposters to explore.

Talk about adorable! Two new Pokémon Squishmallows are available for preorder and they’re the cutest thing ever. The two new Squishmallows recently went live for pre-order the Pokémon Center website after an announcement of the new plushies earlier this year.

The Pokémon joining the Pokémon Squishmallow family are Clefairy and Teddiursa, two earlier-introduced species. Long-time fans of the franchise will be happy to see Generation I and Generation II characters as adorable plushies. Some of the other Pokémon that have been featured as Squishmallows are Snorlax, Togepi, Piplup and various versions of Pikachu.

Clefairy is a Fairy type Pokémon introduced in the first generation of Pokémon in 1996 ('98 for North America). Teddiursa is a Normal type Pokémon introduced to the franchise in Generation II, through Pokémon Gold and Silver

Something fans may not know about Clefairy is that it’s an extraterrestrial Pokémon, meaning that it isn’t from Earth. The bubbly pink Pokemon is best known for being cute, among many other creatures in the franchise. Teddiursa, on the other hand, is very down to earth. The little bear Pokémon is known to have paws drenched in honey. For comfort when nervous, Teddiursa will lick its paws (cuteness overload, am I right?).

Squishmallows are a California-based stuffed toy business that specializes in turning popular video game and anime characters into adorable plushies. In 2022, the Pokémon Company partnered with Jazwares to bring their franchise to Squishmallows. Since then, they’ve released loads of cute Squishmallows.

Currently, the Squishmallows are only available for preorder on the official Pokémon website in the US for $29.99 apiece. Once live, the Squishmallows will take around 5-9 business days to ship. These 12-inch cuties also come with an embroidered Pokémon Center Poke Ball logo.

My Hero Ultra Rumble recently got a Season 2, just after its launch in September of this year. Bandai Namco dropped Season 2 of the MHA brawler on November 24, featuring one fiery addition to the roster in Endeavor.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Qqhbq3G3bg

One of the most anticipated changes that Season 2 will feature is a new playable character. Fiery and fierce hero Endeavor has been added to the playable lineup. Endeavor is featured in the Plus Ultra Roll banner, while the vein-wielding hero Ibara is headed to the Character Tickets section.

Alongside the Flame Hero, players are getting a new “Duo”, or two-player team, option where 12 teams of 2 can go head to head in battle. You can also spice up your fighters' looks in game with new costumes being added to My Hero Ultra Rumble Season 2.

My Hero Ultra Rumble is a fighting title based on the popular superhero manga-turned-anime My Hero Academia. This battle royale based fighter features matches between teams of players, made up of characters from MHA. In the series, characters are able to use “quirks” or supernatural abilities that make them a bit out of the ordinary, in combat and in everyday life.

My Hero Ultra Rumble only features an online mode, meaning that there is no offline option for the game at this time. The free-to-play fighter is available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows.

Nintendo reveals its Black Friday deals and holiday Switch bundles https://www.destructoid.com/switch-oled-black-friday-bundle/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=switch-oled-black-friday-bundle https://www.destructoid.com/switch-oled-black-friday-bundle/#respond Mon, 06 Nov 2023 23:19:32 +0000 https://www.destructoid.com/?p=424934

Nintendo just announced a brand new bundle for the Switch OLED that isn’t simply another Mario Kart package. The bundle goes on sale November 19, just in time for Black Friday shopping.

The new Switch OLED includes Super Smash Bros. Ultimate via digital download and three months of Nintendo Switch Online. The Black Friday deal runs at $349.99, saving you about $67.98 — around the cost of a new game if you're looking to add more to the pile.

If the OLED model isn't what you're looking for, Nintendo's also got deals on the Switch Lite. Two new Animal Crossing bundles join the console lineup in time for the holiday season, including a pink Isabelle Aloha Edition and a turquoise Timmy and Tommy Aloha Edition. Isabelle's bundle is a Shopper's Drug Mart exclusive, while Timmy and Tommy editions are only available at Walmart. Both are $259.96.

Nintendo's Black Friday deals include more than a system bundle, too. Price cuts on games include $25 off The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Luigi's Mansion 3, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, and Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe. You can grab some older heavy hitters for $30 off, including Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, Super Mario Odyssey, and Metroid Dread.

With holiday shopping deals revving up for Black Friday, Nintendo has its full list of offers up on its official hub. If you're among those just itching to dive into Super Mario RPG though, that's a sale for a Nintendo sometime in the far, far future. Aside from a few pre-order bonuses, you're stuck paying full price and maybe reading our hands-on experience with the remake while you wait.

Best io games you can play right now, ranked https://www.destructoid.com/best-io-games-you-can-play-right-now-ranked/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=best-io-games-you-can-play-right-now-ranked https://www.destructoid.com/best-io-games-you-can-play-right-now-ranked/#respond Sun, 05 Nov 2023 17:29:33 +0000 https://www.destructoid.com/?p=424490

Io games are increasingly popular, to the point that you've probably heard of at least one, even if you didn't realize it. Beginning back in 2015, io games made a huge debut and were some of the most popular titles on the market all the way through 2018, with even PewDiePie once declaring an io game to be his "new favorite game." Now that’s some popularity.

Nowadays, there are still loads of active io games for players to enjoy or just try out. There are way too many to list, but there are a few that are worth checking out. Here are the five best io games you can play right now.

5. Paper.io

Image via Google Play

Paper.io is an io game that heavily focuses on taking over territory by creating some form of a “paper empire.” While other players try to create large sheets of paper, you’re doing your best to make your paper sheet even larger. To make your sheet larger, you must create small boxes that return to your original sheet. If another player “cuts” your paper while you’re attempting to make your sheet larger, it’s game over.

First debuting in November 2016, Paper.io is under the category of a puzzle game. The producers of the game are Voodoo. They also published the game alongside producing it. This game is one of the more classic io entries, making it a pretty good choice for someone looking to try out these sorts of games.

4. Friday Night Funkin’

Image via itch.io

Yeah, it was pretty obvious that this one would get some confusion. At first glance, Friday Night Funkin’ does not seem to be part of the io game family. But, if you look at its URL when playing on a PC, the address ends in .io — technically making it an io game. Created in 2020, FNF is one of the more recent io games to hit screens. Developed by The Funkin’ Crew Inc., FNF has since gained massive popularity within the gaming community.

In comparison to all other io games, FNF is definitely the most unique. It does not follow the original play style of any of the other io entries to this day. Friday Night Funkin’ is a rhythm game focusing on our main character, Boyfriend. His goal is to beat a number of opponents in rhythmic battles to continue dating his significant other, Girlfriend. The gameplay is engaging, fast-paced and filled with an insanely good soundtrack.

3. Agar.io

Image via Google Play

Agar.io was the first io game to take the internet by storm back in April 2015. Developer and publisher Valadares created a trend with Agar.io thanks to a simplistic but unforgettable gameplay style. In essence, it's a free-to-play twist on the classic fish-eating game Feeding Frenzy.

In Agar.io, you begin as a very small cell that absorbs other small cells surrounding it to grow larger as time progresses. Your main goal is to avoid cells much larger than you. If you get too close, you’ll be absorbed, and that’s game over. A tip to get big fast is to eat other players who are around your cell’s size but slightly smaller. Be careful though; if you think you're bigger but are wrong, you'll just get absorbed immediately.

2. Diep.io

Image via Diep.io

Diep.io is an MMO-styled io game by Brazilian developer Matheus Valadares. This game first hit the browser in 2016 and has since gained a reputation for its out-of-the-ordinary gameplay compared to other io games. Currently, Google Play reports that the game has over 10 million mobile downloads as of 2023.

What makes Diep.io different is the fact that there’s more than just claiming territory. While playing, you’re actively gaining upgrades, shooting other tanks, and destroying shapes that may stand in your way. There’s also an experience point system where players can grind to get to higher skill levels. This upgrade system sets it apart from other io games, which focus mostly on the divide-and-conquer gameplay loop.

1. Slither.io

Image via Google Play

Slither.io first hit screens back in March 2016 and was an immediate success. Slither.io’s developer, Steve Howse, created the game after being inspired by Agar.io. Although the games are almost identical in gameplay, Slither.io combines Agar.io's gameplay loop with that of the classic game Snake.

In Slither.io, you’re a snake (surprising, right?) eating small pellets to grow in length and size. Your goal is to get as large as possible among about 50 other players within your server. Unlike Snake, you can crossover yourself without causing a game over. But, if another player crosses you, you’re done for— as your snake will turn into a large amount of pellets for that player to devour. A popular tactic players use within Slither.io is to surround a smaller snake and slowly “constrict” it until it accidentally allows you to crash into it. By combining two classics in one, Slither.io definitely deserves its first-place spot.

The Nintendo Museum’s sign and official logo were recently revealed by Nintendo Japan on their official Instagram account. Although the sign isn’t super flashy or extravagant, it still looks crisp and welcoming for future fans to admire while paying a visit to the historical site.

During a Direct in September, the gaming giant teased fans with the museum. In the Instagram post that Nintendo Japan posted on October 26, the sign and logo can be seen from a number of different perspectives, showing off the sign from different times of the day.

Currently, the museum is under construction in Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture, near Kyoto, Japan. The renovations and construction work are set to be completed in March 2024. The sole purpose of the long-awaited project is to provide fans with a glimpse of the company’s legacy, history, and highlights through a well-laid-out collection of its past.

History of the Nintendo Museum Site

Image via Nintendo

Back in 2021, Nintendo announced the renovation of one of their old facilities, its Uji Ogura Plant. First built in 1969, the plant’s original purpose was to produce playing cards and Hanafuda cards. Later on, the plant became a customer service hub, for the company’s products to be repaired.

The renovations announced include both the plant and the land surrounding it. Originally, this project was planned to be called the Nintendo Gallery with a similar concept and approach to its current museum idea.

We'll hopefully see more than just a sign in the months to come, leading up to the Nintendo Museum's opening.

Twitch is getting dropped from the Nintendo Switch https://www.destructoid.com/switch-drops-twitch-from-eshop/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=switch-drops-twitch-from-eshop https://www.destructoid.com/switch-drops-twitch-from-eshop/#respond Thu, 02 Nov 2023 15:32:28 +0000 https://www.destructoid.com/?p=423035

Twitch is pulling support for the version of its app currently available for the Nintendo Switch. The Twitch support page states that it will be “ending support” for the Switch Twitch app early next year.

Those who currently have the app downloaded to their Switch will lose access on January 31, 2024. For those who wish to download it, you'll have until November 6. Nintendo hasn't made any official comment on the matter yet.

The streaming service has been available in the Switch eShop since late 2021 and provided a “flexible Twitch viewing experience” where you can supposedly “watch, follow, or interact with any broadcaster or channel live on Twitch,” according to the app. But many say that this isn’t necessarily true.

Reoccurring Issues with Twitch

Image via Twitch Support

Many fans seem to feel the app didn’t necessarily do what was expected of it, generally causing people to complain about the app’s performance. Users within the r/NintendoSwitch Reddit stated that they were unaware of the apps existence on the Switch.

A user under the name throwmeaway1784 said, "This is how I find out the Switch even had a Twitch app." Here are a few issues many have found within the app:

  • Not able to see that chat during streams
  • Unable to subscribe to creators
  • Cannot broadcast to Twitch from the app

Our own Eric Van Allen says he's used the app on occasion, but only as a last-ditch effort. Mostly, he says, it's a means to an end, but definitely not an ideal way to watch Twitch.

Although the Nintendo device will no longer be supporting the app, the company says that Nintendo is still a “valued partner” and they “appreciate all of the support the Switch community has provided to Twitch and our streamers.”

Ubisoft shutting down online services for 10 older games, including 4 Assassin’s Creed entries https://www.destructoid.com/ubisoft-10-game-shut-down-online-services/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=ubisoft-10-game-shut-down-online-services https://www.destructoid.com/ubisoft-10-game-shut-down-online-services/#respond Tue, 31 Oct 2023 20:26:21 +0000 https://www.destructoid.com/?p=422587 Assassin's Creed Brotherhood multiplayer

Ubisoft is shutting down online services for 10 of their older games early next year. This includes a few older Assassin's Creed games on platforms like PC and Xbox 360, as well as Trials Evolution's PC servers.

This isn't the first time Ubisoft has elected to end online services for some of their older games. Although some may be displeased by it, eventually shutting down online services for older entries is common in the gaming industry.

The services are set to shut down early next year, on January 25, 2024 to be exact. Many noticed the abundance of big name franchises such as Assassin’s Creed. Here are the 10 games players will no longer have online access to from Ubisoft.

  • Assassin's Creed 2 - Xbox 360
  • Assassin's Creed Brotherhood - Mac
  • Assassin's Creed Liberation HD - PS3, Xbox 360
  • Assassin's Creed Revelations - PC
  • Ghost Recon Future Soldier - PC
  • Heroes of Might and Magic 6 - PC
  • NCIS - PC
  • R.U.S.E - PC
  • Splinter Cell: Conviction - Xbox 360
  • Trials Evolution - PC

Assassin’s Creed’s multiplayer legacy

During the prime of older Assassin’s Creed entries, online multiplayer was a huge staple  in the franchise. Some of the beloved modes that fans of the franchise used to enjoy included PvP modes that allowed players to hash it out in intense stealth battles. There were even a number of different scenarios that could accompany these modes.

But, in newer entries, it is evident that the multiplayer aspect has become much less prominent. Some games, such as Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Assassin’s Creed Mirage, have completely discarded the multiplayer component that older entries once leaned on.

Although these games will no longer be available for online services, players will still have great memories of them.

While there are many standout video games you can purchase in this sale, here are 10 titles I recommend for those looking to get the most scares for their buck:

If nothing listed here interests you, Steam will host some other larger scale sales in the near future. On November 21, Steam will launch its Autumn Sale. Furthermore, the famous Steam Winter Sale starts on December 21, just before Christmas.

We're about to gain access to even more retro classics on Switch (and several other platforms) come January. The Top Racer Collection features remastered SNES racing games to play, and it's set to launch on January 11, 2024 on Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One/Series S|X, and Steam.

The Top Racer Collection will feature the popular ‘90s racing trilogy Top Gear, Top Gear 2, and Top Gear 3000. First hitting the shelves in 1992, the SNES high-speed racing series gained popularity among fans across the globe. Top Gear’s original Japanese title, Top Racer (a moniker that is now being ported over to the entire collection), is being adapted for the collection’s upcoming release. Although the series was competing with other popular racers such as Mario Kart and F-Zero, Top Gear still left an impact on the gaming industry.

With Top Gear being one of the most memorable racing trilogies in gaming history, fans will get a chance to play a wider range of classic racing games. Beyond that, they’ll also be able to enjoy the full Top Gear experience with newly implemented gameplay modes and filters. Both online and offline multiplayer modes will be available for players to choose from. And of course, the great soundtrack that accompanies the game will be featured as well.

Top Gear meets Horizon Chase

Alongside the Top Gear trilogy, an all-new collaboration game is coming as part of the collection. Top Racer Crossroads is a special crossover with Horizon Chase. The crossover is set to feature aspects of both games within the collection. This is a treat for Switch fans specifically: Nintendo already has a wide range of classic titles for fans to enjoy, but adding more SNES games to the platform any way possible is a great thing.

The competitive community reacts to surprising new tournament guidelines from Nintendo https://www.destructoid.com/competitive-community-reacts-nintendo-tournament-guidelines-smash/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=competitive-community-reacts-nintendo-tournament-guidelines-smash https://www.destructoid.com/competitive-community-reacts-nintendo-tournament-guidelines-smash/#respond Fri, 27 Oct 2023 21:12:33 +0000 https://www.destructoid.com/?p=420588 Kirby in the opening of Super Smash Bros Ultimate contemplating Nintendo and the company's new tournament guidelines

Nintendo recently got competitive fans of its various franchises riled up after releasing a list of strict guidelines for community tournaments.

The gaming giant posted their new tournament guidelines on their respective websites in Japan, the U.K. and the U.S. on Tuesday. Since the announcement on October 24, fans have taken to the streets (of Twitter) to express their dismay.

The guidelines in question

After looking over the guidelines, it is clear that several facilitate fiscal policy. Some of the other guidelines put emphasis on the number of players who were allowed to participate.

Here are a few of the guidelines that stood out to fans:

  • Community tournaments may not “generate commercial revenue except as permitted by these guidelines”
  • Only 200 players can participate for in-person events while 300 are allowed for online events
  • No use of game consoles, accessories and software not licensed by Nintendo
  • No viewership fees for tournaments held online
  • No third party compensation for organizers allowed. This includes the selling of food, drinks, and merchandise

According to Nintendo, these guidelines regulate “not-for-profit, small scale community tournaments involving games for which Nintendo owns the copyright.” For larger scale tournaments, organizers would require a license from Nintendo. Otherwise, organizers would need to follow the newly implemented guidelines.

https://twitter.com/Doeboy/status/1716847636995613079

For organizers who already have a license from Nintendo, the guidelines do not apply. Those tournaments may continue and be for-profit events.

What organizers and fans have to say

Amid the release of the guidelines, several tournament organizers and players have taken to Twitter to express their concerns for the future of Nintendo competition.

Alex Jebailey, tournament director of CEO which hosts Smash competitions, released a response. Jebailey urged the Smash community to apply for licenses in November, in hopes of ensuring smoother sailing. Via Twitter, Jebailey said, “I’m confident all established events are fine,” while acknowledging the current state of the Smash community saying that he knows they’re “up in a flux right now.”

https://twitter.com/tempoaxe/status/1716889320563630173

TempoAxe, one of the top Super Smash Bros. Melee players in the world, expressed his displeasure and major concerns after seeing the new guidelines. He took to Twitter on Tuesday, saying “I’m scared for my life” and that these new guidelines are “extremely concerning, especially for Melee events.”

Arevya, an advocate for disabled gamers and popular content creator, also took to Twitter the day of the guideline announcement over notes about Nintendo accessories. In a long series of threads, Arevya discussed the importance of accessible gaming gear for gamers with disabilities like herself. “I have NEVER been more disappointed in Nintendo than I am today,” Arevya said. “This is a huge step back for accessibility in gaming…”

The relationship between Nintendo and its competitive community has never been top notch. Due to a wide range of confusion and uncertainty, a notable rift has formed. Nintendo’s rocky relationship with these competitive players is most evident within the Super Smash Bros. community. Last year the Smash World Tour Championships, a licensed and large scale tournament, was canceled by leaders at the company despite the organizers meeting the qualifications.

League of Legends publisher Riot Games debuted another in-universe music group called Heartsteel, and their debut single "Paranoia" dropped earlier this week on October 23. Alongside the single, several new skins are being added to the MOBA.

Despite the boy band being completely new to the LoL world, several members of Heartsteel may sound familiar. A few of Heartsteel's members are voiced by popular artists in real life; Kyan is voiced by Cal Scruby, K’Sante is voiced by Tobi Lou, Sett is voiced by Øzi, and Ezreal is voiced by Byun Baekhyun.

Heartsteel-inspired skins make a debut

Players of League of Legends will not only have a chance to enjoy Heartsteel’s music, but will also be able to mimic the looks of their favorite members with new skins for each member of Heartsteel in-game. Although each member will recieve their own skin, only Kayn and Yone will get different tiers of skins. Kayn is set to recieve a skin with a Legendary status while Yone is set to get a Prestige skin, in addition to their originals.

Fans can catch a glimpse of the new skins in Heartsteel's 'Paranoia' music video. Alongside the music video, an official skins trailer from Riot Games has also been released. The 'Paranoia' skins will be available to players on November 8.

Riot Games has been debuting in-universe music groups for a while now. Some of their most popular groups were virtual K-pop group K/DA (2018) and hip hop group True Damage (2019). The in-universe music group approach that Riot Games has been taking is seeing a lot of success. K/DA blew many away with their debut single "POP/STARS" in 2018, which truly kicked off the League of Legends band legacy.

Heartsteel is set to make a similarly large impact on the League of Legends universe through exciting music, entertaining visuals, and taking on the title of Riot’s first in-game boy band.

Overwatch 2 collaborates with Le Sserafim in its first in-game music event https://www.destructoid.com/overwatch-2-lesserafim-collaboration/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=overwatch-2-lesserafim-collaboration https://www.destructoid.com/overwatch-2-lesserafim-collaboration/#respond Tue, 24 Oct 2023 19:59:41 +0000 https://www.destructoid.com/?p=419346

Blizzard Entertainment announced it's joining the growing list of games with K-pop crossovers, this time with Overwatch 2. The hero shooter will host its first-ever, in-game musical event in collaboration with popular K-pop girl group Le Sserafim.

The five-member girl group under HYBE consists of Kim Chaewon, Sakura, Huh Yunjin, Kazuha, and Hong Eunchae. The powerhouse girl group debuted in May 2022 with their title track ‘Fearless’. Since their debut, they’ve taken the K-pop industry by storm as well as the gaming scene.

Le Sserafim’s newest single, ‘Perfect Night,’ will be featured in Overwatch 2 via a fun and colorful music video. The video is set to air on Thursday, October 26, at 9 p.m. PDT.

A quick teaser displaying the Le Sserafim members in their own uniquely styled D.VA-inspired headsets dropped on October 17, prior to Blizzard’s announcement.

Overwatch takes a Fortnite approach

Blizzard's new approach is similar to that of Epic Games’ Fortnite. The game has had several collaborations and crossovers between K-pop groups, some of which featured BTS and IKON. Those collaborations included emotes and skins for players to sift through. Some of those crossovers also brought the live show experience to a virtual audience, like when Marshmello performed in an in-game Fortnite concert in February 2019.

Alongside Le Sserafim's music video, the Overwatch 2 collab will also include a Le Sserafim-inspired game mode for players to enjoy. Legendary hero skins and exclusive in-game items will also be available for players to collect after the event launch. Blizzard says it'll share further details on Monday, October 30 after the event begins. All in-game content will go live on November 1.

Le Sserafim’s work with Blizzard and Overwatch 2 doesn’t stop there, either. The K-pop group will also make an appearance at this year’s BlizzCon on November 4. Following the conclusion of Community Night, Le Sserafim will showcase a special performance, including their new single ‘Perfect Night’ and several other popular tracks from their previous releases.
