Remnant 2 plays host to one of the strangest video game arsenals yet seen. Its weapons feature eyeballs, metaphors given physical form, and a whole menagerie of other strange modifications. The Remnant 2 Merciless Long Gun, however, is not only notable for being very strange, but also for its sheer combat potency. This makes it an essential item for many players.
Getting the Merciless is quite straightforward, as it’s dropped by one of the game’s main bosses: the Corrupted Ravager. A mutated returnee from Remnant: From the Ashes, the Corrupted Ravager is one of the possible world bosses in Yaesha, meaning that as soon as the player rolls a campaign or an adventure in Yaesha featuring the Ravager, they technically have a chance to get the Merciless. The catch, however, is that Remnant 2‘s Merciless is just one of several possible drops from the Corrupted Ravager, and whether players get it or not depends entirely on some nuances that play out during the boss fight.
Finding the Corrupted Ravager in Remnant 2
The first step towards getting Merciless will be to roll a version of Yaesha that features the Corrupted Ravager as a boss. If players find that their campaign version of Yaesha features the Corruptor world boss, they can roll yet another Yaesha via Adventure Mode, which is bound to prove extremely handy when hunting down the game’s more elusive item drops.
After finally coming face-to-face with the wolf-like deity, players must play their cards right for Merciless to drop. Notably, there are four unique items that can drop during the Corrupted Ravager boss fight:
- Ravager’s Maw
- Ravager’s Mark
- Doe’s Antler
- Crimson Membrane
Crimson Membrane is the crafting material needed to create Merciless, and getting it means doing two particular things during the Corrupted Ravager boss fight. Doing anything differently will result in a different drop, which means players need to focus if they’re gunning for a particular Ravager drop.
How to Get Merciless from Corrupted Ravager
Whereas the majority of Remnant 2‘s boss fights do, indeed, begin fairly straightforwardly, this isn’t the case with the Corrupted Ravager. A tricky beast, the encounter technically begins with a dialogue, and the bit that’s important for Merciless is somewhat easy to miss:
- When the Ravager tells the player to kill the Red Doe, player needs to shoot the Ravager instead.
That’s not all, however! After this decision is made, the fight kicks off proper, and players still have one last thing to do before they make sure that the Corrupted Ravager actually drops the Crimson Membrane:
- During the fight, the player needs to allow the Ravager to kill and eat the Red Doe.
This particular order of operations essentially “locks in” the Crimson Membrane drop in that particular version of Yaesha. Players do still need to actually kill the Corrupted Ravager, which is no easy feat, but as long as these two actions are achieved, the final reward should be the appropriate crafting material.
Once players have the Crimson Membrane in tow, they can head back over to Ward 13 and speak with McCabe to craft Merciless, a stark reminder of the horrific nature of the Corrupted Ravager. One last bit that’s worth keeping in mind is that the three remaining drops will need to be sourced through repeat fights with the Corrupted Ravager, and different behavior during his dialogue and boss fight.
