“WHELP. IT HAPPENED,” begins the tweet from Lilith Walther (b0tster on Twitter), one of the developers behind Bloodborne Kart, a fanmade spin-off of the popular FromSoftware game. Sony has allegedly contacted them requesting the removal of copyrighted content from the game.

“Long story short I need to scrub the branding off of what was previously known as Bloodborne Kart, which we will do. But that requires a short delay,” they continue. However, they add that “the game is still coming out! It'll just look slightly different.”

It’s not entirely surprising since the Bloodborne Kart directly references the title of the 2015 PS4 game and includes characters from it. The game is a “meme made real,” originating from an April Fool’s Day Tweet back in 2021. What is surprising is that it has taken so long, as the game has been in open development for quite some time now. It’s perhaps because, a few months ago, it was given the release date of January 31, which is next week.

Of course, the developers were planning to release the game for free, but it’s still infringing on the company’s copyright. It’s honestly not at all surprising, which Lilith states themself in another tweet, saying, “Like I've said in multiple interviews, we were all expecting this to happen so we could be pleasantly surprised if it didn't.”

It’s definitely a bummer, and I feel bad for the development team who were looking forward to putting their creation in the hands of fans, but they’re taking it in stride. Lilith says, “Turning this into an original game that we have full creative control over is kind of exciting. This is a fan game no more!”

Lilith says that they are current uncertain of what the new release date will be for the rebranded Bloodborne Kart, but they hope to share news as soon as possible.

Fan-made Bloodborne Kart has locked in a release date for January 2024 https://www.destructoid.com/fan-made-bloodborne-kart-has-locked-in-a-release-date-for-january-2024/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=fan-made-bloodborne-kart-has-locked-in-a-release-date-for-january-2024 https://www.destructoid.com/fan-made-bloodborne-kart-has-locked-in-a-release-date-for-january-2024/#respond Wed, 01 Nov 2023 12:33:32 +0000 https://www.destructoid.com/?p=422704 bloodborne kart release date hunter and cleric beast

Just in time for Halloween, the creators of Bloodborne Kart have announced a January 2024 release date for the meme-made-actual game.

Bloodborne Kart launches next year on PC, and it comes fully stocked. Developer Lilith Walther, who goes by b0tster on Twitter, and the team at Fan Software pulled out the, erm, stops on this one. The game will feature 12 racers to choose from and 16 maps on which to race. It comes with a story mode for solo play, as well as a Battle mode and split-screen multiplayer. And since this is, naturally, based on a From Software game, it includes boss battles. How the latter all works isn't all the much of a mystery. As showcased before, the boss battles are one-on-one arena showdowns with deadly weapons.

Bloodborne Kart is a joke game no more

The developer also released a new trailer, as seen above. It offers a glimpse of some of the marketable features, such as the playable characters. Want to know who will win in a race between Maria and Baby Mergo? Well, Bloodborne Kart will provide you with the answer to that fan fiction born of a fever dream. My money is on Mergo, though. You see the child whip out that pistol during the trailer? This kid isn't playing. The game's creators certainly do appear to be having a good time. I have nothing but respect for that unabashed homage to Akira.

Since it's a fan-made game, you should expect it to go easy on your wallet. The developer also released a Bloodborne demake called Bloodborne PSX and uploaded it for free on ichio. For more information on the game plus images, be sure to give the game's site a look.

Bloodborne Kart dev shows off some rad new boss fight footage https://www.destructoid.com/bloodborne-kart-father-gascoigne-boss-fight-footage-demake/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=bloodborne-kart-father-gascoigne-boss-fight-footage-demake https://www.destructoid.com/bloodborne-kart-father-gascoigne-boss-fight-footage-demake/#respond Fri, 07 Apr 2023 17:02:18 +0000 https://www.destructoid.com/?p=372840 Bloodborne Kart

Father Gascoigne revs up his engines

Bloodborne Kart is an in-development project mixing kart racing with the horror of Bloodborne, and today we got a new glimpse of what that combination looks like. A new video spotlights Father Gascoigne and his dangerous wheels in a karting boss fight.

LWMedia, a.k.a. Lilith Walther, has been working on Bloodborne Kart for a little while. It's the latest project following her popular demake of Bloodborne into PSX-era graphics. Kart has the same graphical style, but leans into another beloved aspect of that console generation: mascot kart racers.

In today's video, we get a good look at the Campaign Mode's Father Gascoigne boss fight. It moves from a racetrack chase through Yharnam to an arena, where an enraged Father Gascoigne does away with pretense and hoists up his machine gun.

There are a few things I love about this: first, the reimagining of the lead-up to Gascoigne's arena as a kart racer track. The boulder area in particular made me smile. But also, this take on Bloodborne as a vehicular combat arena rules, and I'm eager to see more of it. The boss fight clocks in at a decent length, though that's something Walther seems to still be fine-tuning.

Fear the old fuel

In today's update on YouTube, Walther also shares some details about Campaign mode. It will feature a "linear progression" of levels, with story cards strung between to tie them together. They'll be made up of Races, Battles, and Special; the last of those is like what we see here, with Father Gascoigne.

Winning levels will net the player racer and kart unlocks, echoes for levelling up, and insight. If you collect all the insight, you'll unlock something special too. Knowing how insight worked in Bloodborne, I am equal parts interested and concerned about what that secret might be.

Bloodborne Kart is still in development, but safe to say that when it's ready to rev up those engines, I'll be there.
