Final Fantasy XIV has no shortage of unique and enjoyable mounts to collect. No matter if you’re into giant dinosaurs or weird floating heads, Yoshi P and team have you covered.
However, with literally hundreds of mounts to choose from, Sprouts are likely to be overwhelmed by decision paralysis. So, just which mount should players get first?
How to get your first mount in Final Fantasy XIV
I feel like there’s only one correct answer here, both technically and figuratively. The traditional mode of transportation in any Final Fantasy game, including XIV‘s Eorzea, is the chocobo. As such, it’s fitting that any new adventurer in the critically acclaimed MMORPG will get one as their first mount. It’s like trying anything new; you start with the classics and branch out from there.
- Acquire the level 20 MSQ A Hero in the Making from Minfilia in The Waking Sands (X:6.9, Y:6.1).
- From there, you’ll need to choose a Grand Company, whose actual impact is very inconsequential.
- The Company You Keep (Immortal Flames)
- The Company You Keep (Maelstrom)
- The Company You Keep (Twin Adder)
- There will be a few onboarding quests to complete, no matter which Grand Company you signed on with.
- Once a standing member of a Grand Company, the quest My Little Chocobo will be available in the Grand Company headquarters.
- Immortal Flames: Swift in Ul-dah’s Steps of Nald (X:8.4, Y:8.9)
- Maelstrom: R’ashaht Rhiki in Limsa Lominsa’s Upper Decks (X:13.1, Y: 12.8)
- Twin Adder: Vorsaile Heuloix in New Gridania (X:9.7, Y:11.1)
- The Grand Company Chocobo requires 200 Seals, which you should already have from completing the Wood’s Will Be Done (Twin Adder), Till Sea Swallows All (Maelstrom), or For Coin and Country (Immortal Flames). If not, you can earn additional Seals by completing FATEs, completing Grand Company Guildleves, or running the available Duty Roulettes.
Once complete, you’ll have your very own chocobo that can be named and will join you on your adventures. There are a multitude of ways the chocobo can be used and upgraded. It can serve as an ally in combat, hold additional items, and even wear super cute outfits! While there are plenty of other mounts out there, none can replace this stalwart companion.
